The Snow is Melting

I am excited about the summer! In Washington State, the first sign of impending adventure is the opening of the mountain passes. Chinook Pass to be specific and the road to some of my favorite destinations is open as of Memorial Day Weekend!

We spent some time in the mountains and traversed the pass finding plentiful snow up high but the levels between 3000-5000 feet looked pretty sparce. Hopefully this will not be a problematic dry summer with fires.

Spring means plentiful run off and damp foliage, so there is no fire danger and nothing is like a big fire to help manage all the dead wood laying around the cabin, and then roasting smores in the evening.

At a bit lower elevation, ant hills are alive with millions of these industrious but nonetheless creepy friends.

This ant hill is about 4-5 feet tall.
I tried hard not to fall in when I took this.
I went on a hike with the dog and enjoyed views of the mountains and river.
Myah trying to find a squirrel…

So now it’s time to work hard on the next few weekends so I have plenty of time to head out later in June for some more outdoor fun!
