At this point in my life more than any other, I’m realizing that taking a break from work is so important for my own health. I’m on day three of a really relaxing vacation sitting on an awesome little beach on the coast of Oregon. My kids and I were trying to catch some waves with our boogie boards and now I’m catching some sun that is serendipitously found this beach in late March in the northwest… a very special occasion. We of course had wetsuits, I’m back to my normal clothes, warm and enjoying the sunshine. I haven’t thought about work all day. So often the pressure of being in healthcare can be overwhelming. The mistakes that could be made… the lives that could be lost. Did I miss something or anything in my assessment. Are they going to sue me? These are haunting questions That make you wish you had taken your brains and applied them to a dot.com job. This is why so many of my colleagues are burning out.
So I think the solution is to use your sickleave and annual leave wisely. Take a break. Allow for the stress of the job to fade into the distance while you actually enjoy yourself. Rejuvenate and remember why you entered this profession in the first place.
