New Year issues…

What are your biggest challenges?

Jan 1 – It’s the first morning of the new year. It’s a cold morning and the clouds are low. They have an almost fog like presence that pushes the coldness right to your core. I feel motivated to start the year right, make some goals, and do some writing. Winter is perfect for that right? Biggest challenges…

Jan 2 – It’s way to early after a nice day off, but I have to go to work so will finish this someday…

Jan 10 – Has it really been 10 days in 2024? And have I really NOT finished my New Year entry into this blog…?

Jan 12 – Nope.  So half the flights in this country are canceled and the thermometer says 17 degrees. How can I possibly be productive when the rest of the country is digging out of snow!

Jan 13 – I had way too many chores to do today, and even called my mother on her birthday. Then the vacuum cleaner carpet attachment literally blew up in front of my wife. How can that happen and then how can one possibly find the replacement part online to order… But somehow it happened, thanks in large part to the many companies that no one even knows about that make random parts for old crap, and I live to speak of it. Isn’t it bad luck to publish something on the 13th?

Challenge #1 – I think this could just go on and on. My biggest challenge is Not Doing Today’s Work Today. Punting. It is a hard habit to break. I always feel bad about my worst punt: I was just about to invest a few hundred bucks in Amazon stock in 1997… Bygones. So I’m going to think about today’s work, and do it one item at a time.

Challenge #2 – Stopping the bad habit of needing to eat snacks when I drive. It’s a tall hill to climb, covered in milk chocolate. And M&M’s. If I could just bring a healthy snack, that may solve my issue. Next time, I’ll try an apple.

Challenge #3 - At least one blog entry per week. I think this will be good for me, and help me develop into a better writer. Maybe, adding in this discipline will help me with other challenges.

Challenge #4 – One hike per month, and a really cool one this summer. Time to start planning and find my snowshoes for January…

I feel like that’s a good start. Challenges are always there but I think it helps to put them on paper, make a plan and incrementally toast them. I guess this means I have to push publish and then move on tonight. I think I can relax a bit on Saturday night, and feel good about the accomplishments today.  And hey, if you’re still with me, it’s been 13 days in 2024, so just sit down and reevaluate, and don’t feel bad about resolutions that didn’t make it this far. Start tomorrow with one step at a time. We’re all in this together, so know you are not alone!
